Permit Overview

The District of Columbia requires residents and non-residents to obtain a Concealed Carry Pistol License (CCPL) to legally carry a concealed firearm. This license is issued by the Metropolitan Police Department. The application process requires applicants to complete a firearms training course and undergo a background check to ensure responsible gun ownership and public safety.
